JOHN 1:1-5 (NIV)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

I thought the quote from Will Rogers was interesting. It is true that the best doctor would be able to 'just know' the condition of the patient. I wonder if Will Rogers knew Christ. He was a cowboy, comedian and actor who lived from 1879-1935. When I read his quote - my first thought was ... Christ - our Great Physician knows everything about us, without having to ask.

Here is the fuller passage of Luke chapter 7:20-23 which helps us to see this better ...

When the men came to Jesus, they said, "John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, 'Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?' " 21 At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind. 22 So he replied to the messengers, "Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. 23 Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me."


Now if we could only figure out the free will issue that keeps so many of us and our loved ones in the darkness - thinking we have it all figured out and we know best and not allowing ourselves to accept the free grace of our Healer!

Tom Gibbs, Senior pastor at Presbyterian Redeemer Church in San Antonio TX had a sermon posted online about climbing rainbows HERE. He used the quote from Matheson's hymn "O Love That Will Not Let Me Go" and gave some history behind it. It gives a clearer understanding as to what he was thinking when he wrote it.

I really enjoyed the insight from reading his (4 and a half page) sermon. It is a very easy read. If you have time, pop over there and read it, espeically if you are going thru a tough time in your life.

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. This photo was taken in 2004 on a hiking (okay ... walking) trip up Bald Mountain in Old Forge NY in the Adirondack Park. The roots of the tree covering the path were absolutely amazing to me, and of course every time I look at them, bring to my mind how we need to be deeply rooted in God.
