I know that we all love the song, "Let There Be Peace on Earth" and we all pray for peace among nations, peace among cultures, and peace among the folks we live with.

But realistically - when we look at scripture - there will be no peace ... until He returns.
That is hard to swallow, hard to understand, but it is what we are told:

Luke 12:45 -56 ( from: BibleGateway)

45But suppose the servant says to himself, 'My master is taking a long time in coming,' and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk. 46The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

47"That servant who knows his master's will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

49"I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed! 51Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."
54He said to the crowd: "When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, 'It's going to rain,' and it does. 55And when the south wind blows, you say, 'It's going to be hot,' and it is. 56Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don't know how to interpret this present time?

How does that open a kettle of worms among believers?

Such a thought provoking post!
We talk about, sing about and pray about peace all the time. But, there's more to the story!

It's one of those things that is hard to understand, but that we still need to think through. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful picture and quote and a somewhat troubling Scripture. We want Peace and not division and strife.

It is not possible to stand publicly in faith for our Lord without resistance and persecution. That's a hard thing to take when we humans are starved for acceptance and respect. The Lord tells us to count it a blessing to be ridiculed for Him. We will have an eternity of acceptance that cannot compare to anything we know here. Thanks for sharing the scripture. It is so relevant for our times. God bless, Dr. Bobbi Jo

I never had peace....He made the difference...He changed my heart....I think real peace begins with Him...

That song is one of my favorites.... I agree that there won't be peace on earth --because all we have to do is to look around at what is going on all over the world. Humans cannot get along with each other... And--there are so many different religions --which makes it hard also. I can just pray every day that we can somehow have peace, at least in our own homes and in our country.

Hugs,
Betsy

I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about Jesus in our world. Thank you for posting these scriptures. It helps to clarify what he really taught.

That's a pretty powerful scripture when we understand exactly what it is saying.
