In teaching young children to draw a picture as they listen to a piece of Music, I tell them to draw something that the music leads them to think of. Even if the piece is St. Sean's Kangaroo from the Carnival of the Animals ... some kids will draw a rabbit- because that is what their experience is. They may never have seen a kangaroo - so it isn't the first thing that pops into their minds.
When we read an email or react to a situation - it is based on who we are, where we have come from, and the situations and emotions that capture us in those moment.
We see things as WE are ... not as they are.
